At Student Movement Against Cancer (SMAC), our mission has always been to empower students to take meaningful action in the fight against cancer—and the energy from this year’s Movers, Shakers, Change Makers and Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School's SMAC Dunks Cancer events has been nothing short of inspiring. The events brought together students, athletes, and community members for one purpose: to support Comfort Project 360, an extraordinary nonprofit that enhances the comfort and well-being of cancer patients receiving treatment at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center.
The Movers, Shakers, Change Makers events at All Hallows High School and Union Catholic High School featured a variety of activities, including fitness sessions, awareness campaigns, and community-building exercises, all aimed at supporting Comfort Project 360's mission. Funds were raised through student registration, private donations, and sponsorships, with all proceeds directly benefiting the nonprofit.
In addition to these events, Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School's SMAC chapter organized the SMAC Dunks Cancer basketball game on May 16, 2025. This student basketball game featured an entertaining halftime show and refreshments, with all proceeds donated to Comfort Project 360.
The Power of Student-Led Giving
Thanks to the collective efforts of everyone involved—students, teachers, donors, volunteers, and sponsors—this year’s events raised meaningful support for Comfort Project 360. But beyond the dollars raised, the campaign demonstrated something even more powerful: when young people are given the tools and opportunity to lead, they show up in ways that change lives.
